Four South Florida Universities Impact the Community by Partnering with Goodwill South Florida

Group of people

During the campus move-out process every May, students at four different South Florida colleges and universities donated thousands of pounds of reusable items that might otherwise have ended up in landfills.

By offering this opportunity and making socially responsible decisions, these students created a lasting impact to the environment as well as their community.

Goodwill South Florida sends a huge thank you to the administrators and students who participated in Campus Donation Drives last year at the following schools:

University of Miami
Florida International University
Barry University
St. Thomas University

Dedicated ambassadors from the University of Miami, Florida International University, Barry University, and St. Thomas University are doing an outstanding job! GoodwillSFL is enormously grateful for their aid and strong commitment to the betterment of society at large. The Campus Donation Drives are helping Goodwill to make life-changing differences in the lives of people with disabilities and other barriers to work.

Every time you donate, you’re helping us fund programs that change the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families. Your donations are directly benefitting people that rely on the job training programs we offer to find employment and excel in their professional lives.

Proven Results

In 2019, as they were preparing for final exams, 3,179 students from the University of Miami, Florida International University, Barry University, and St. Thomas University helped our local community by donating their items to Goodwill South Florida! Here are the numbers of students listed by campus;

  • UM              2,186
  • FIU                 668
  • Barry              231
  • St Thomas       94  (first-year program)

Overall

  • Students donate 20% more during campus move-out programs than through other efforts.
  • The donated items are sold in our stores and the money is used to fund programs that train and employ people with disabilities and other barriers to work.

In 2020, we hope our four University GoodwillSFL Ambassadors can continue to offer these campus donation programs to help students change lives one donation at a time. Thank you for all the support and patronage you have provided for Goodwill South Florida and each individual that you have helped in our programs!
