Notice Under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA)


Goodwill South Florida does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices and complies with all regulations promulgated by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under Title I of the ADA and ADAA.

Effective Communication

Goodwill South Florida will, upon request, provide appropriate aids and services to ensure effective communication for qualified persons with disabilities so they can participate equally in Goodwill South Florida’s programs, services, and activities. Such aids and services may include, but are not limited to, sign language interpreters, documents in alternate format, and other ways of making information and communications accessible to people who have speech, hearing, or vision impairments.

Modifications to Policies and Procedures

Goodwill South Florida will make all reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all of its programs, services, and activities. For example, individuals with service animals are welcome in Goodwill South Florida offices and Stores, even though pets are generally prohibited.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a Goodwill South Florida program, service, or activity, should contact the ADA Coordinator (Barbara Viamonte) in the Human Resources department as soon as possible, but no later than 48 hours prior to the scheduled event. 

The ADA does not require Goodwill South Florida to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services, or impose an undue financial or administrative burden. Complaints that a Goodwill South Florida program, service, activity or facility is not accessible to persons with disabilities should be directed to Barbara Viamonte, the ADA Coordinator of the HR department (see contact information above). 

Goodwill South Florida will not charge a qualified individual with a disability or any group of individuals with disabilities to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids/services or reasonable modifications of policies or procedures.


Who can file a complaint

Anyone who feels they have been discriminated against on the basis of disability by Goodwill South Florida in the provision of the organization’s program, service or activity has the right to file a complaint. Contact the ADA Coordinator for the department providing the program, service or activity. Goodwill South Florida will work with the individual to resolve the complaint on an informal level. If that is not possible, the individual may file a formal ADA grievance as per Goodwill South Florida’s ADA Grievance Procedure.

How to file a complaint

Goodwill South Florida’s ADA Grievance Procedure is the mechanism by which individuals may file complaints of disability discrimination under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. The Human Services Department, 2121 NW 21st Street, serves as the conduit between the grievant and the department against whom the grievance is made. Formal ADA grievances can be submitted online to the ISD ADA Office, or in writing by mail. The ISD ADA Office will assist anyone who needs help in completing the form. This ADA Grievance Procedure does not apply to complaints of employment discrimination. Those are handled by the Human Resources department, located at the same address
