Goodwill South Florida’s award-winning Spirit of Goodwill Band had a busy start to the new year. The band performed at Miami Mayor Francis Suarez’ State of the City address at the future site of the City of Miami administration building. They also performed once again at the annual South Beach Jazz Festival, an event dedicated to showcasing incredible talent while promoting inclusion and accessibility.
The talented musicians are no strangers to public performances. The popular Goodwill “ambassadors’’ include individuals with disabilities including autism, blindness, and other physical, mental, and developmental challenges.
“Beyond their extraordinary talent and dedication, members of the Spirit of Goodwill Band are a great representation of the Goodwill mission,” said Karen Lithgow, Chief Marketing Officer of Goodwill Industries of South Florida. “Their performances are a testament to what’s possible when you focus on abilities rather than disabilities.”
The Spirit of Goodwill Band uses music to inspire and connect. When they are not singing and performing, members work at Goodwill South Florida as part of the Ryder Apparel Manufacturing unit or the Badia Spices packaging operation. Through programs such as vocational rehabilitation, job training, and employment services, Goodwill empowers individuals to accomplish amazing things, proving that given the right opportunities, everyone can thrive.
